With the continuous development of modern manufacturing technology, coating technology is becoming an important surface process. Plasma spraying and supersonic spraying technology are currently more commonly used spraying methods, let's discuss their differences and application scenarios.

First, the principle and application of plasma spraying

Plasma spraying is a spraying technology that heats and accelerates high-speed gases. In the plasma state, the atoms and ions in the gas reach a certain energy state, and a high-temperature plasma will be formed, which is quickly pumped through the piston to make the gas ions fly out at high speed to form a plasma beam, so that the powder material in the spraying process is heated, and sputtering sprays onto the surface of the substrate to form a coating. Plasma spraying is suitable for surface spraying of metal and non-metal substrates with relatively fine grains such as thermal barrier coating, electro-alumina, electrolytic chromium, brass alloy, etc.

Second, the principle and application of supersonic spraying

Supersonic spraying uses a high-speed oxygen combustion furnace to form a high-speed jet gas flow by mixing fuel, gas and oxygen, and the air velocity can reach supersonic speed. During the spraying process, the melting point of the material is reached instantaneously, sprayed onto the surface of the substrate, and then quickly solidified to form a thin film. Supersonic spraying is suitable for powder material surface metallization, coating formation, modification and other fields.

  Third, the difference

  1. The principle is different: plasma spraying is the use of high-temperature plasma to accelerate the spraying of powder materials onto the substrate, while supersonic spraying is the use of high-speed gas impact and heat to form a film of the material.

  2. The spraying speed is different: the maximum speed of plasma spraying is about 250m/s, while the maximum speed of supersonic spraying can reach more than 2000m/s.

  3. Different application scenarios: plasma spraying is suitable for metal and non-metal substrates with fine grains, and supersonic spraying is suitable for powder surface metallization, modification and other fields.
